Wawa has named Nelson Griffin as its new chief supply chain officer, according to a LinkedIn announcement from Griffin.

Griffin noted in his announcement that he joined the convenience retailer a few weeks ago and his bio on the networking website notes that he began his role earlier this month. Griffin also said he “could not be more humbled, proud and excited to be a new member” of Wawa.

A spokesperson from Wawa did not respond by press time for details on Griffin’s hiring.

Griffin joins Wawa after spending the past year and a half as senior vice president of strategic sourcing for Independent Purchasing Cooperative, a purchasing and services cooperative for Subway franchisees in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to his LinkedIn bio.

Prior to joining IPC, Griffin spent over eight years with Red Lobster, where he was executive vice president, chief procurement and real estate officer, according to his LinkedIn bio. 

Griffin led all supply chain related activities for Red Lobster, which included over $900 million of food, beverages, kitchen equipment, product distribution and travel services for the company’s 700-plus locations around the globe, according to the Seafood Nutrition Partnership nonprofit, of which Griffin was previously a board member. Additionally, Griffin oversaw all food safety, product quality and restaurant inspections at Red Lobster.

Before Red Lobster, Griffin held several roles for the restaurant chain’s former parent company, Darden Restaurants Inc., including vice president of supply chain, according to the Seafood Nutrition Partnership. Earlier in his career, he was director of strategic procurement for Kellogg’s and held several positions with Cracker Barrel. 

Wawa operates over 1,040 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington D.C.
