Dive Brief:

  • RaceTrac has deployed technology firm Acumera’s end-to-end edge computing platform across its entire convenience store network, according to a Tuesday announcement.
  • RaceTrac chose Acumera’s software for its ability to centralize management and provide real-time insights, according to the announcement. Doing so has helped improve the retailer’s operational efficiency and guest experience, RaceTrac said.
  • This continues a busy past few months for RaceTrac on the technology front. In December, the retailer implemented new servers and a different compute system to support efforts like self-pumping gas pumps, payments processing, customer loyalty, store security and scheduling.

Dive Insight:

By tapping Acumera’s Reliant Platform, RaceTrac has been able to add new tech applications without the need for additional hardware, according to the announcement.

Acumera’s platform has helped RaceTrac reduce truck rolls — when technicians are dispatched to solve problems — by 90% and cut software tickets by 40%, according to the announcement.

Having the ability to consolidate hardware and systems and make changes in near real-time has been a “game-changer,” Tyler Grubbs, executive director of store technology for RaceTrac, said in the announcement. Additionally, the company has seen success with maintaining uptime with the platform.

“Maintaining the uptime of our critical systems, applications, and devices is crucial to our business operations,” Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Technology John Lukas said. “RaceTrac simply can’t afford any downtime or interruption in service.”

RaceTrac isn’t the only c-store retailer that has partnered with Acumera. Earlier this year, Casey’s General Stores tapped the tech firm’s edge computing platform to manage and scale its legacy tech systems and container-based applications and digital content.

Atlanta-based RaceTrac operates over 575 convenience stores across eight southern states as well as more than 230 RaceWay stores in 12 states across the Southeast.
